Volunteer of the Month - Amy Cardno
Our last Volunteer of the Month for 2018 is not only our youngest on-air member, but also our youngest ever female presenter! Amy Cardno has already been making waves in the local press, so we thought we'd grab our chance to speak to her before she hits the big time...
When did you join Radio Royal?
I joined Radio Royal at the end of January 2018.
Tell us a little more about what you do at the station!
I passed my test tape in September and I am currently hosting my own show on a Wednesday evening 6-7, I play songs from the 60s right through to the current charts, so there's something for everyone.
Why did you decide to volunteer?
I am very focused on media at Larbert High School, so my mum organised me to go up to see the Radio Royal studios Christmas 2017, when I got there, I ended up doing more than I expected, I got asked to do some notice boards and I got interviewed, and that’s when I realised I didn't want it to end.
What would you say to someone who was considering volunteering in hospital radio?
I would highly recommend it, as you get to meet some incredible people, gain new skills, plus you get to learn how the radio station works, plus it’s a rewarding experience, you also have the amazing opportunity to go round the wards and collect requests from patients.
