Volunteer of the Month - Kevin Thomson
With our induction evening just around the corner, we thought we'd introduce you to the one who organises it all - September's Volunteer of the Month is Kevin Thomson!
When did you join Radio Royal?
I joined Radio Royal in March 2016 and currently hold two Executive positions within the Radio - Volunteer Manager and Record Library Manager. I have done both these roles for 2 years and my favourite one of the two is Volunteer Manager, this is because I get to lead the induction for the Radio and get to meet a lot of new people from different backgrounds. There is the paperwork side of it but we won’t talk about that...
Tell us a little more about what you do at the station!
As Record Library Manager I have to keep all 7,500 vinyl records organised and make sure the records are up to date, I also do this for CDs and digital tracks.
Why did you decide to volunteer?
It was through another member at Radio Royal that I heard about this amazing organisation, so I attended a few of his shows as a guest and then decided to join. After only volunteering for 10 months with the radio I received the Robin Jenkins Memorial Award for best probationer volunteer which was amazing.
What would you say to someone who was considering volunteering in hospital radio?
If you are looking to volunteer for an organisation that allows you to learn new skills, meet new people and give you great pride then I would highly recommend that you get in contact.
