Volunteer of the Month - Mattie Hollingworth
We're very lucky to be able to bring you football commentary from all Falkirk and Stirling Albion home games on Radio Royal. This month, our Volunteer of the Month is one of our Stirling commentators - Mattie Hollingworth! Let's hear what he has to say...
When did you join Radio Royal?
So officially I joined 2 years ago, although I'd been an Associate Member for about 6 years (I think).
Tell us a little more about what you do at the station!
The honest truth is not a lot at the moment, I got involved when Sandy was doing the Stirling Albion coverage, the following season he handed the reins over. I had a brilliant time doing the commentary for a few years, managed to expand it and get player interviews and try to build it a bit more. Unfortunately I had to stop doing the commentary when I got a SOS from the club asking if I'd cover the match day announcements, although I still support the coverage that is now completed by my father. In more recent times I had been sitting in on Craig Arthur's show however the arrival of my daughter saw my spare time reduce. But hoping to get more involved again soon as I've been missing it!
Why did you decide to volunteer?
Sandy was the reason, I'd looked into it before but nothing came of it and when I started doing the commentary it seemed appropriate to try and get more involved.
What would you say to someone who was considering volunteering in hospital radio?
I'd go for it, it's a great experience, even with doing it from afar you get a great deal of experience from it and its good fun!
