At least three killed and 14 injured in Texas bar shooting with 'potential' terror link

At least three people, including the alleged gunman, have been killed after a shooting at a bar in Texas.

Authorities say 14 others were wounded after the incident in central Austin, where the suspect was found to have "potential" links to terrorism.

The city's police chief Lisa Davis told reporters early on Sunday that her force received reports of a "male shooting" at Buford's Backyard Beer Garden, a popular spot in the city's entertainment district.

Ms Davis said the suspect, who was driving an SUV, went past the bar several times, before putting the vehicle's indicators on, opening his window and "shooting [through the open window] with a pistol, striking patrons on the bar patio and in front of the bar".

The suspect then parked and "got out of his car armed with a rifle, and began shooting at people passing by".

When police arrived at the scene on West 6th Street, they found a man with a gun and three officers "returned fire, killing the suspect".

There were indications "on the subject and in his vehicle" suggesting a "potential" link to terrorism, according to the FBI's agent in charge, Alex Doran, who warned it was "too early to make a determination on that".

Ms Davis said they were lucky because of the number of officers who were nearby at the time, and as bars were closing, they "were able to rapidly move here".

Emergency medical services chief Robert Luckritz said three people were found dead at the scene and the injured were taken to hospitals. Of those injured, three were in a critical condition.

Mr Luckritz said they got a call "at 1.39am and within 57 seconds, the first paramedics and officers were on scene actively treating the patients".

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson praised the rapid response by police and rescuers, saying they "definitely saved lives".
